Home School: Class Schedule 2012 - 2013

September 25: Super-Duper Senses - can you taste with your feet or smell with your tongue?  We’ll look at some of the ways humans and other animals use their senses.

October 23: Deserts of the World—We’ll explore our new Deserts of the World exhibit and learn about some of the amazing animals that live in these desert areas.

November 27: Owls—We’ll learn about these mysterious hunters of the night, visit our resident owls and get a closer hands-on look at what they eat when we dissect some owl pellets.

January 22: Animal Grossology—”Sure, some animals can be cute and cuddly and sweet, but sometimes they can be downright  DISGUSTING!”  We’ll learn about some of the really gross things that animals do.

February 26: On the Defensive—Chemicals, weapons and deception, OH MY!  Animals and plants have some interesting ways that they defend themselves.

March 26: Animal Babies—Spring has sprung and animal babies are popping up  all around.  What is it like to be a wild animal baby?  What should we do if we find one?

April 23: Living or Non-Living, That is the Question—What makes something living or not-living?  We will answer that question while investigating plants and animals and how they interact with their environment.

May 28: One Meter Hike—Have you ever looked at the world from an ant’s perspective?  We will this day as we venture on a micro hike like no other and discover a whole new world

All classes provide students with the opportunity to explore animal and biological topics, meet live animals and participate in fun educational activities.


*Please Note: Classes are designed for specific age groups of children who are able to successfully participate in the programs without parental involvement. Parents and siblings may tour the zoo while your student is in class.
